I met Mick Rowe last year, and I’ll never forget the first thing that caught my eye—her green hoodie with the bold words “Suicide Sucks” emblazoned across it. It was impossible to ignore, and honestly, it intrigued me.
That hoodie wasn’t just a statement, it was a conversation starter, a call to action, and a symbol of hope all rolled into one. She joined me on my podcast, and over breakfast from Audrey’s Coffee House, we had one of the most raw and honest conversations I’ve ever had.
Her passion for helping others, her drive to make a difference, and her unflinching honesty about the challenges of tackling such a sensitive topic left a lasting impression on me.
One of the things we discussed was how difficult it is to spread awareness about suicide prevention because of the way algorithms filter out the word “suicide.”
It’s heartbreaking, really, because it means that vital information and resources often don’t reach the people who need them most. But she’s not one to back down from a challenge. Instead, she’s found creative ways to connect with people and build a community that’s unafraid to talk about the hard stuff.

Mick Rowe – Suicide Sucks
Why This Episode Matters
This episode of the Quite Peckish Podcast holds a special meaning for me. It’s more than just another chat, it’s a call to action. Together with Mick, we delve into topics that are often uncomfortable but necessary, especially those related to mental health. It’s raw, honest, and at times emotional, but above all, it’s hopeful.
Mick’s story moved me, and it gave me space to reflect on my own journey, too. What came out of our conversation is a shared message about resilience, finding joy in the little things, and leaning on community when it matters most.
Whether you’re here for the food or the deeper talk, I promise you’ll walk away with something meaningful, especially a better understanding of why mental health matters and how powerful it can be to share your truth.
Big thanks to Audrey’s Coffee House for the amazing breakfast and for being part of the local spirit that both Mick and I truly value.
If you haven’t heard this episode yet, I invite you to give it a listen. Sometimes the hardest conversations lead to the strongest connections.

Do You Have 8 Minutes?
One of the most powerful ideas I’ve come across is something called “Do You Have 8 Minutes?” The concept originally came from Simon Sinek, but it was Mick Rowe who shared it with me during our podcast conversation, and it really stuck with me.
It’s such a simple yet profound idea. In the toughest moments, 8 minutes can make all the difference. It’s not just a question, it’s a lifeline. It’s a way to say, “I need help, I’m struggling,” without having to explain everything.
Here’s how it works:
👉 Find someone you trust.
👉 Let them know that if you ever message or call with those words, it means you need them to listen, just for 8 minutes.
👉 Be that person for someone else, too.
It’s a beautiful way to build a support system where reaching out is easy and no one has to struggle alone. Imagine if we all had someone we could call for those 8 minutes. Imagine if we could all be that person for someone else.
